Hanwell — Timely police response stops break and enter in progress

A timely response by RCMP members stopped a break and enter in progress in Hanwell, N.B. On March 16, 2024, at approximately 10 p.m., members of the Keswick RCMP received a report of a break and enter in progress at a church in Hanwell, N.B. Within minutes, an officer arrived at the scene and intercepted a man who was in the process of fleeing. The officer attempted to arrest the man and an altercation ensued. During the altercation, the man threatened the officer with weapons. Another officer arrived on scene and the male was taken into custody.

On March 22, 2024, at approximately 11:20 p.m., members of the St. Stephen RCMP detachment responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Highway 774 in Wilsons Beach on Campobello Island. The driver of the vehicle was transported to hospital with serious injuries. A 17-year-old passenger, and only other occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene as a result of his injuries. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Tags:
